The Flash’s Andy Muschietti looks to be the director of choice for Batman film The Brave And the Bold. More here.
It’s being reported this morning that Andy Muschietti, director of
The Flash, the upcoming solo movie for the Scarlet Speedster, might be getting the keys to the Batcave for his next project.
One Take News broke the story (which is being widely reported elsewhere,) that Muschietti is set to direct the first Batman film in the DC Universe, that being
The Brave And The Bold.
It’s easy to see why this story might check out. James Gunn, head honcho of the DCU has been extremely effusive in his praise for Muschietti’s handling of
The Flash, calling it ‘one of the best superhero movies ever made.’
It makes sense then that Gunn would want to keep Muschietti in his stable of filmmakers as the DCU moves forwards: in fact he’s previously said words to that effect. Plus, Muschietti also has some experience of handling the Caped Crusader under his belt too, given that he’s the guy that’s carefully constructed the return of Michael Keaton’s Batman back into our lives.
Muschietti has played coy about the possibility when asked, stating “I don’t think I can talk to that yet,” when asked recently what a Batman film of his might look like.
As far as we can tell, the only other possible project he has lined up that might be ready to go is an already-announced big budget take on the beloved
Attack On Titan manga, but that was announced all the way back in 2017, with Muschietti’s involvement made public a year later. Like
The Brave And The Bold, Attack On Titan is also a Warner Bros project though, so there’ll undoubtedly be wriggle room for Muschietti to move between projects. And a Batman film with a director the studio trusts will surely be a higher priority for Warner Bros.
We know that James Gunn himself will be directing the first of the DCU films,
Superman: Legacy which is due to arrive in 2025, There’s also been plenty of talk regarding a James Mangold-helmed take on
Swamp Thing (although Mangold has a Star Wars movie on his plate next).
Now it looks like we can potentially pencil in a Muschietti-helmed Batman film too.
The Brave And The Bold is expected to be a lighter take on The Dark Knight than Matt Reeves’ current ‘Emo-Batman’ take in
The Batman (to which he’s making the sequel), following Bruce Wayne as he tries to raise and train his biological son Damian Wayne as a new Robin. We’ll bring you more news on this one as we hear it.
