Universal sets date for Jordan Peele’s next film

Two more films are coming from Jordan Peele in 2024, one of which he’s set to direct himself: more here. With three films to his name so far, Jordan Peele boasts quite the filmography. The trio of Get Out (that he’s pictured directing), Us and Nope would surely be in the mix in any conversation about which 21st century director has the strongest three films to open their filmmaking career. And now he has another on the way, a project that marks the third film in Peele’s five picture deal with Universal and is set to release in late December of 2024. That’ll put it head-to-head with James Cameron’s next Avatar film. Sounds like some smart counter-programming to us. As with all of Peele’s projects, expect it to remain shrouded in secrecy, but we’d expect the same style of horror suffused with social commentary that has marked his work so far. The Hollywood Reporter is also stating that Peele’s production company, Monkeypaw Productions is set to release another film in September of 2024, but no details have been released about that project either. We can safely say that Peele won’t be helming that one, but everything else is guesswork. It could be one of the already-announced Monkeypaw projects such as Nanny director, Nikyatu Jusu’s modern take on the vampire movie, or perhaps it could be something new. There was a story floating around back in 2020 that Peele was set to be involved in a remake of Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs and although we have a huge amount of affection for the 1991 movie, we’d love to see Peele involved in a spin on that story as either director or producer, given its outlandish satirical spin on gentrification. Still, a lot has happened in the world since then so there’s every chance that project has fallen by the wayside, although Monkeypaw president Win Rosenfield was still talking it up in 2021. We’ll bring you more news on either of these projects as we hear them. Whilst we likely won’t find plot details for some time, Nope was one of the most idea-laden films of last year and Peele continues to be one of the best filmmakers out there at building tone and mood.
