Gerard Butler’s next action flick gets a release date as he reunites with the director of Greenland. More on Kandahar here.
Following hot on the heels of the supremely satisfying
Plane, the release window for Gerard Butler’s next action flick has been announced.
Kandahar has been set for a May release date in the US, releasing on the Labor Day holiday. That means the film will be setting itself up against a few notable releases such as Disney’s
The Little Mermaid.
Distributors Open Road seem confident in their film, with Butler’s
Plane having performed solidly at the box-office, beating original box office projections and being well received by audiences. (You can catch our review
here.)
Kandahar has been written by Mitchell LaFortune and Waugh, and ‘follows Tom Harris (Butler) who is an undercover CIA operative stuck deep in hostile territory in Afghanistan. After his mission is exposed, he must fight his way out, alongside his Afghan translator, to an extraction point in Kandahar, all whilst avoiding elite enemy forces and foreign spies tasked with hunting them down.’
The film is set to reunite Butler with Ric Roman Waugh, the director with whom he has previously collaborated with on
Angel Has Fallen and the excellent
Greenland (which is getting a
sequel). No release date has yet been set for
Kandahar in the UK but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
