Disney is looking again at a sequel to its 1993 success, Hocus Pocus.
It wasn’t a huge success on its original release, but the Disney live action comedy Hocus Pocus was at one stage selling a million DVDs every Halloween. There have been suggestions for some time too of a sequel, but now the studio looks to finally be pressing ahead with a follow-up.
Hocus Pocus 2 is now set to be a project for the Disney+ streaming service. Jen D’Angelo has been hired to write the script for the film, and part of her remit is to work the original cast back into the story. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy played the witches in the original, although at this stage, none of that trio have signed up for the sequel.
The project is reportedly in its infancy, so there are options with regards making them the lead characters, or giving them smaller roles. In the case of the latter, the sequel would then introduce a new collection of witches.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more on the project.
