As well as cancelling completed movies, Warner Bros Discovery has now started slashing its television output as well. Fun times.
Warner Bros Discovery continues to earn its place on many people’s Christmas card lists with the news that as well as cancelling completed movies, it’s now dropping lots of TV shows too.
It’s quite a list this, and the shows are in some cases being taken off its HBO Max streaming service as well. The upside of this to the multi-billion dollar conglomerate is it means it won’t have to pay the same level of residuals to those involved with the shows. That should pay for a few more sandwiches at the company Christmas party, right?
Deep breath then, the shows that are being taken off its streaming service as Westworld, The Nevers, Love Life, The Nevers and Gordita Chronicles.
On top of that, the company has also axed a range of shows. Love Life, Sweet Life, Legendary and Fboy Island (no idea) have just had their papers. Warner Bros Discovery has also cancelled the show Minx, which was in the midst of shooting its second season. That second season will now follow Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt into the recycle bin.
Separately, Warner Bros Discovery has inked a deal with Amazon to bring its streaming service to Prime Video channels, as opposed to going it entirely alone.
HBO Max is still some years away from a UK launch, due to the contractual ties Warner Bros Discovery has with Sky over here. Currently, the platform is due to launch in 2025 in Britain, although the rate the company is going, there might not actually be much left to put on it.
