The new creative impresario of the DC Extended Universe, James Gunn, took to Twitter to answer a few questions about the new look DC world.
James Gunn has been pretty quiet ever since getting the top creative job at DC Studios. We like to think that Warner Bros has built him a Fortress of Solitude somewhere (or at the very least, cleared a desk in a quiet office,) so he can have some space to ponder over the future of the DC movies and TV shows that are now under his watch.
However, Gunn did take to Twitter to answer just a few questions about the direction that the studio will be taking under his creative stewardship and in the absence of an official announcement, it at least gives us something to go on.
When asked if Gunn is planning to commission more live-action TV shows for DC characters, Gunn responded with: “Yes, most definitely” before adding: “The DCU will be connected across film and TV (and animation).”
He’d later add that animation would come in both 2D and 3D flavours and that video games would also be part of the interconnected plan.
So far, so synergy. But not entirely, according to Gunn who confirmed a rumour that not everything would be interconnected.
When asked by a fan if there would be some standalone projects, he replied: “Yes, some.” For fans of the more stylistically unique DC films such as The Batman or Joker, that will likely come as a relief and its heartening (although not surprising) to see that Gunn sees the value in maintaining the ability to give filmmakers a greater degree of artistic freedom, where appropriate.
Other details included the reveals that Gunn will still write and direct ‘select projects’ whilst Booster Gold has been the most requested DC character that we’ve yet to see.
Snippets they may be, but until Gunn and Safran reveal their masterplan for the DCU, these nuggets of information will continue to excite the fanbase as it waits for something official.
