Universal has reportedly won out in a heated bidding process to secure Stephen Kingās book The Fairy Tale.
Weāve known for a few weeks that that the admired filmmaker, Paul Greengrass, will be tackling an adaptation of Stephen King’s recently-published
The Fairy Tale. King reportedly did one of his famous $1 deals with Greengrass, selling the rights to his work for a token sum but with a presumed big slice of the filmās profits to come later on.
Bidding to secure the project was reportedly quite heated, with Universal coming out on top according to
Deadline, despite strong interest from both streaming platforms and traditional studios.
Ultimately, Greengrass opted for Universal as the filmmaker enjoys a strong relationship with the studio, having made his
Bourne films there, along with the 9/11 drama,
United 93 and his most recent directorial outing, 2020ās
News Of The World.
The story is described as ‘an epic tale that follows a 17-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a terrifying world where good and evil are at war. The stakes could not be higher, for that world and ours, as he journeys into the mythic roots of human storytelling.’
Despite some of Kingās other upcoming adaptations facing various problems, Greengrassā involvement seems to mean the
The Fairy Tale is facing far fewer issues. It probably doesnāt hurt that reviews for the recently-published book are glowing too. Weāll bring you more updates on this one, including casting, as we hear them.
