Cate Blanchett plays a renowned composer in Tar, and the trailer for Todd Field’s new movie has now landed. Todd Field is a director who doesn’t make a lot of films, but when he does, they certainly have an impact. Garnering Oscar nominations for his directorial debut In The Bedroom in 2001, his last film was Little Children, a dark drama with Kate Winslet, Patrick Wilson and  Jennifer Connelly, which was nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar in 2006. Now, over a decade later, Field is back with Tar. The official synopsis reads as follows: Set in the international world of classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra. However, buried under that genius is a dark secret, which threatens her career. As the tension builds, Tár begins to unravel. Blanchett stars as Tar, alongside Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner and Mark Strong. Field wrote and directed the film. He wrote the script specifically for Blanchett, saying that the film would never have been made without her. It’s a decision that appears to have paid off, as the film is already a frontrunner for awards season. Tar will be released in UK cinemas in January (although it’s arriving in the US this year).
