The Netflix-bound Beverly Hills Cop sequel is bringing another 1980s legend into the fray as Kevin Bacon signs up.
The upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley has added the evergreen Kevin Bacon to its growing ranks. In what seems like a great bit of casting to us, an icon of the 1980s and 90s will pop up in a film series that enjoyed its heyday in the same era. Whilst Bacon’s role is being kept firmly under wraps, we’re hoping that he’ll be playing the kind of smarmy villain that became one of his trademarks in that era, with films like The River Wild, Sleepers and Hollow Man establishing him as one of Hollywood’s go-to actors who could create skin-crawlingly loathsome characters.
It has also been confirmed previously that Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, John Ashton and Bronson Pinchot will all be reprising their roles from the earlier films with Eddie Murphy leading the movie as the title character, of course.
Ashton and Reinhold in particular, are two memorable faces from the original films, with their bickering detectives Rosewood and Taggart providing excellent foils for Murphy’s gleefully madcap antics.
Succession’s Mark Molloy directs, with the film being a Netflix production. No release date has been confirmed as of yet, but today’s continues to build anticipation for a project that has surely been buoyed by the success of Top Gun: Maverick, a similar type of legacy sequel. We’ll bring you more updates on Axel Foley as we hear them.
