Just a few weeks before cameras roll, Dallas Sting has been cancelled due to an issue with the story upon which the film was based.
Skydance Media has scrapped the production of Dallas Sting six weeks before cameras were set to roll on the film. According to reports, the studio was made aware of ‘an impropriety tied to the original true story’ on which the film would be based. Whilst no details have surfaced as to what that issue may be, it was serious enough for executives to take the rather bold step of cutting their losses on the project and abandoning it.
McConaughey would have led the film which would have also featured Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever as his daughter. The story was centered around ‘a rag-tag group of Dallas high school girls who headed to China in 1984 and beat some of the best women’s teams from China, Australia and Italy.’ McConaughey was set to play the team coach.
Kari Skogland, director of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier series for Marvel was set to direct. Hopefully, the late cancellation won’t leave any of the crew out of pocket and whilst Skydance will be facing some red ink in its ledger, the studio would clearly rather accept those losses and move on instead of than litigation or damage to its reputation at some point further down the road.
