Production is set to begin on Beverly Hills Cop 4 this week, with the next instalment in the series having found a home at Netflix.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 has taken a long time indeed to make it into production. The third film in the series was released in cinemas all the way back in 1994 and, like its predecessors, was a Paramount production. A fourth film in what was at one time Eddie Murphyās signature franchise has been in the works in some form since the mid-90s ā with some versions being scrapped. One iteration ended up transforming into a CBS pilot episode which followed the son of Murphyās maverick cop, the irrepressible Alex Foley.
Whilst that idea (and a whole host of others) never worked out, the next film in the series is finally happening and it looks set to focus entirely on Eddie Murphyās character. The title has been revealed as
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Having gone down a
Top Gun: Maverick style of titling for the legacy sequel, hopefully we get an equally satisfying action blockbuster and some top-form Eddie Murphy, whose last collaboration with Netflix came in the form of 2019ās entertaining
Dolemite Is My Name.
Deadline is reporting that Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are set to join Murphy in the film, which will be directed by Mark Molloy, who makes his feature film debut. Murphy will also produce along with Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the key figures on the production of
Top Gun: Maverick. Weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
