Netflix will release the sequel to the popular Knives Out just in time for Christmas, it has been revealed.
Netflix certainly raised a few eyebrows early last year when it announced it was stumping up
a whopping $400m to acquire two sequels to Rian Johnson’s critically beloved
Knives Out, the director’s homage to the sleuth movie. The first film was fun for a host of reasons, not least because of its impressive ensemble cast. However, the film story leading up to
Glass Onion, the sequel has been almost as interesting too. Netflixās splashy acquisition of the series before the company ran into a few problems of its own;
Lionsgate stepping in to offer cinematic distribution, the coming together of the starry ensemble cast; itās been a fun ride and we havenāt even seen the film yet.
Netflix has announced that the film will launch on its streaming platform on December 23rd, just in time for Christmas. What the company hasnāt yet offered details on are the plans for a cinematic release, simply stating that
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (a mouthful to be sure, but you didnāt think Netflix would pay $400m for two films and
not exploit the branding, did you?) will release āin select theaters on a to-be-announced date.ā
The film will debut in a handful of venues around the UK when it closes this yearās London Film Festival.
In the film, Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc, alongside new characters depicted by Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke. Norton will play āa tech billionaire who invites his nearest & dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island. It’s not long before someone turns up dead.ā
Weāre on board although weāre keen to hear details of this theatrical release. Netflix continues to keep its cards close to its chest with that one, in true whodunnit fashion. Weāll bring you more details as we hear them.
