Patricia Arquette is going behind the camera to helm her first feature, and the first cast members are now confirmed.
Patricia Arquette has had an eclectic film career. From the slapstick comedy of Little Nicky to her Oscar winning turn in Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Arquette has never shied away from challenging roles onscreen.
Now, she is stepping behind the camera for the first time, to direct Gonzo Girl. Set in 1992, the plot follows Ally, a struggling young writer, who takes a job working as an assistant to Walker Reade, a novelist with a wild reputation. After learning that his rampant alcoholism has ruined his writing ability, Ally filters his ramblings into publishable prose through her own keyboard and begins to turn his career around.
As well as directing, Arquette also co-stars in the film as Claudia, Walker’s manager. Willem Dafoe and Camilla Morrone star as Ally and Walker, respectively.
Arquette directs from a screenplay by Rebecca Thomas and Jessica Caldwell, adapted from the novel of the same name by Cheryl Della Pietra.
Production is set to begin in Utah later this week.
