Disney has released a teaser trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 – the sequel to the 1993 cult classic starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.
When Hocus Pocus was released in 1993 it was somewhat of a financial flop. While this was likely aided by the fact that it was a Halloween film released in the middle of Summer, the movie nonetheless found its audience over time. Now, a long-awaited sequel is coming on 30th September, and Disney has released a teaser trailer.
Much of the main cast is returning for the sequel, Midler, Parker, and Najimy reprising their roles as the three witches who seek to wreak havoc on Salem’s young population. Doug Jones, who plays the zombie Billy Butcherson, is also coming back for this film, which is set 29 years after the original.
The teaser reveals a new group of youngsters messing around with forces they don’t understand, as the black flame candle that resurrects the infamous witches is lit once again. The three of them only feature briefly, but in that short amount of time it’s clear that Bette Midler will be camping it up again as Winifred. She and her sisters will no doubt get up to a lot of comedic mischief.
Here’s the trailer –
Also starring in the film are Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, and Lilia Buckingham. Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by The Proposal's Anne Fletcher.
The rumours of a Hocus Pocus sequel were swirling around for years before this movie was announced, so this is definitely one to look forward to for fans of the original.
Hocus Pocus 2 is streaming on Disney+ from 30th September.
