Stranger Things star is Millie Bobby Brown in discussions to join the Star Wars universe, with Lucasfilm keen to recruit her.
Despite being just 18, Millie Bobby Brown has proven herself as a name who draws eyeballs to projects. Whether sheās leading her own films such as
Enola Holmes, part of an ensemble as we saw in
Godzilla vs. Kong or appearing as the face of a prestige TV series such as
Stranger Things, Brown is proven box office. Thatās especially true for the demographic that Lucasfilm is especially keen to draw into the
Star Wars universe: teenagers and twenty-somethings who might not have the same long-standing relationship with the franchise that older viewers have.
As such, with Brown reportedly very eager to land a role in
Star Was, it seems like this is the type of mutually beneficial scenario that will likely see it happen.
Having first broken a couple of days ago, the news story seems to be picking up lots of traction although itās far from verified, weād add. Whilst itās reductive to simply suggest that the internet will believe (and recirculate) anything, itās also true that thereās a lot of logic to the potential matchmaking that could be underway here, with both Brown and Lucasfilm getting plenty out of a prospective deal.
For Brown, what would presumably be a lead role in another plum TV show, or even a
Star Wars movie series, would be yet another big franchise to augment her profile. For Lucasfilm, landing such a likeable young actor with star value could be the springboard to relaunching the studioās
Star Wars movie line, something it has struggled with for a while. (You can check out our recent thoughts on that
here.)
A source, which has been widely quoted and is attributed to
The Mirror has reportedly said āMillie is on Disneyās radar for the new Star Wars projects. Sheās had contact with Kathleen [Kennedy, Lucasfilm boss], who is aware of her desire to feature in a movie or play a central role in one of the new TV projects for Disney Plusā.
The piece added that āthe conversations are informal but thereās huge mutual respect there. The Disney executives know just how much of an icon she is already for the 10 to 30-year-old audience and what that brings in terms of appealā.
Whilst itās an intriguing proposition, it will be interesting to see if any of the outlets more traditionally associated with breaking big news like this pick up on the story or add to what is currently being reported. Until then itās very much a case of wait and see.
