Paramount has reportedly stepped away from the Cleopatra project that was set to reunite Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins.
Despite reportedly maintaining a continued interest in the project, Paramount has stepped away from the Gal Gadot Cleopatra project that has been in the works for almost two years now. The film was originally set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, before the Wonder Woman director stepped back into a producing role, likely due to her juggling three huge blockbuster project: the planned Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie for Lucasfilm and the third Wonder Woman film, which would of course feature Gadot in the title role.
Kari Skogland, helmer of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier came in to direct and news on the project has been pretty scarce since. Now it seems like Paramount are ‘not prepared to meet the timeline that the creative elements necessitated’, according to Deadline. However, interest in the project is high elsewhere, with Universal said to be looking to take over, although no deals have yet been signed.
Gadot will next be seen in Disney’s Snow White film as the Evil Queen. With Jenkin’s Star Wars movie seemingly stuck in limbo, it’s unclear when we’ll next see her in the director’s chair. Perhaps with Paramount’s issue with Cleopatra being a timeline-related one, the plans are to get Wonder Woman 3 going first, with the duo confirming in April of this year that is script is being written. When we hear more regarding the order that these films are set to take, we’ll let you know.
