More details emerge regarding Lord of the Ringsā return to cinema screens, in animated movie form.
Weāve known for a
Lord Of The Rings is set for a major return to screens over the next few years. Whilst the franchise has lain fairly dormant for a while now, that’s all set to change over the course of the next couple of years though. Amazon is bringing its flagship
Lord Of The Rings TV project to our screens at the end of the year, whilst back in February we heard that the Zaentz company was
reportedly selling the rights to the movies, games, live events and more.
Weāve also known for around a year now that Warner Bros, who also owns a slice of the Middle-Earth pie, will be releasing a feature-length anime in 2024, entitled
Lord Of The Rings: War Of The Rohirrim.
Whilst the film was announced last summer, we now have an exact release date to look forward to, even if it is some way off. Details are still pretty scant on this one but we do know that it āis set 183 years before those in the original trilogy of films and centres around the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the mighty King of Rohan.ā
This will mark the second occasion we’ve seen Helm’s Deep rendered in animation, following Ralph Bakshi’s 1978 film, which infamously ended Tolkien’s trilogy midway through the story, at the climax of the battle of Helm’s Deep. Animation work on
The War Of The Rohirrim has been ongoing for around a year now, by the same team that worked on
Blade Runner: Black Lotus. That film’s director, Kenji Kamiyama, is directing but we also have some casting announcements too.
Brian Cox will voice King Hammerhand whilst Luke Pasqualino will portray the clever and ruthless Dunlending Lord Wulf. Gaia Wise will voice Hera, Helmās daughter whilst Miranda Otto will narrate the tale. Otto played Eowyn in Peter Jacksonās beloved live action trilogy and will reprise her role from those films, narrating the story as Eowyn,
Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, Shaun Dooley, Michael Wildman, Jude Akuwudike, Bilal Hasna and Janine Duvitski will also lend their voice talents to the production. We also have an exact release date too, with April 12th 2024 being the date for your diary. Weāll let you know more as we hear it.
