The creepy crawly creature feature Arachnophobia gets a modern upgrade, with a remake on the way.
Well this one came out of the blue. Arachnophobia is a wonderfully creepy horror whose script is infused with a dark sense of humour. Directed by frequent Spielberg collaborator Frank Marshall and produced by Kathleen Kennedy for Amblin in 1990, it followed Jeff Daniels’ amiable Dr Ross Jennings, as he attempts to overcome the titular phobia when a small town becomes infested with killer spiders. Featuring memorable performances from Julian Sands and the great John Goodman, the film holds a special place in the hearts of many a horror aficionado.
Now, Amblin Entertainment is pressing ahead with a remake. Christopher Landon, who has form in the horror comedy genre, having helmed both Happy Death Day films as well as 2020’s body swap horror comedy Freaky, will write and direct.
Saw alumni James Wan will produce which original director Marshall will be one of the executive producers.
No release date has yet been set, nor do we know when filming it set to begin. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more though.
