Jackie Chan to play retired stuntman in new film

Art imitates life as Jackie Chan plays an old stuntman in the upcoming film Ride On: more information on it here. Despite promising he would quit action films after the release of 2012’s Chinese Zodiac (on which Chan won the world record for most credits in a single production, doing a whopping fifteen jobs), Jackie Chan is a busy as ever. His latest film is to be called Ride On, an action comedy that will see Chan play an ageing stuntman who achieves worldwide notoriety after a video of him fighting off debt collectors goes viral. The film is said to act as a tribute to Chan’s extraordinary stunt filled career, from the genre defining Drunken Master to the pioneering Police Story franchise. Chan is quoted as saying that “In the heyday of kung fu movies, you fought for real, you risked your life by really racing a fast car and really riding a wild horse. The spirit was passed on from one generation to the next”. The film will be directed by Larry Yang, whose drama Mountain Cry was the closing film of the 2015 Busan Film Festival. The cast will also include Kevin Guo, who starred in Yang’s previous film Adoring, and Liu Haocun. It is set to be released for the Chinese market on December 31st 2022, with worldwide release dates yet to be announced. Watch the trailer below.
