The Batman promises to be the longest cinematic incarnation of the character yet, as the filmās sizeable running time is revealed.
It takes a special kind of person to dress up as a bat and run around, beating up criminals at night. Properly exploring the twisted psychology of such a person could take some serious time, and that seems to be the case, with the news that the running time for Matt Reevesā upcoming take on the Dark Knight
The Batman ā will run to almost three hours.
Three hours! Thatās on par with
Avengers: Endgame, a comic book film that had to deal with dozens of characters, all trying to save the universe, whereas
The Batman will be focusing on the mind of one character, presumably with slighter lower stakes, too.
Fans of the Caped Crusader (and weāre included in that) are sure to be excited of course. This is the characterās first solo outing since 2012ās
The Dark Knight Rises, meaning theyāll be getting plenty of Batman for the entry price. Speaking of
The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolanās trilogy entrant clocked in at 165 minutes, but
The Batman is set to outdo even that.
On the other hand, film fans whoāve lately sat through
House Of Gucci, No Time To Die or
The Last Duel, (although these are far from the only films with bloated running times), and found them to be overlong might be looking at
The Batman as another potential slog. Director Matt Reeves has been talking about the film as a kind of
Zodiac-style crime thriller, so if he can capture some of the dark intricacy of David Fincherās (also long) serial killer epic, and graft it onto a Batman tale, it could justify its rather long length.
Time will tell, and weāll find out on March 4th, when the film releases in cinemas.
