Joss Whedon’s interview – where he pushes back against allegations – has been met with short shrift.
Joss Whedon has remained almost completely silent since allegations surfaced about his behaviour on the set of the Justice League reshoots, with accusations fro, Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg, and Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, causing huge concern. This in turn lead to an official Warner Bros investigation, Whedon being removed from the TV show The Nevers, and Buffy star Charisma Carpenter coming out to also accuse Whedon of unacceptable behaviour.
Whedon himself remained quiet throughout these accusations, choosing not to defend himself, publicly at least. However, the filmmaker broke his silence this week, appearing in an interview with New York magazine where he placed the blame for the Justice League allegations primarily on the shoulders of his accusers. That’s an approach which, as you can imagine, hasn’t gone over particularly well, especially with the actors themselves. Not least Ray Fisher who, to put it mildly, faced something of a battle simply to have his claims acknowledged in any official capacity.
Meanwhile, Gal Gadot has given the director equally short shrift, taking to Twitter to contest Whedon’s claims that any allegations or threats that she may have perceived were a result of English not being her first language. Gadot’s response was short, simple and blunt: ‘I understood perfectly. I will never work with him and would never suggest any of my peers work with him in the future.’
Meanwhile, Fisher used Twitter to signal that he wouldn’t be replying, not straight away at least, as he was too busy enjoying Martin Luther King Day. That didn’t stop an outpouring of support for the actor as the hashtag #istandwithrayfisher trended on the social media platform, at one point even trending above Marvel Studios’ big Moon Knight reveals.
It sounds like we’ll hear more from Fisher later today, but from reactions online, it doesn’t sound like Whedon is receiving the reaction that perhaps he’d hoped for. We’ll bring you updates on this one as we hear more.
