Stephen King fans will be glad to hear that the upcoming adaptation of his 1980 Firestarter novel is rated R, giving the film scope for horrors aplenty.
The upcoming adaptation of Stephen Kingās horror novel,
Firestarter, has been given an R rating by the MPAA, meaning the film will most likely receive a 15 rating from the BBFC when it lands here in the UK. Whilst the news isnāt especially surprising, and follows in the vein of recent King adaptations such as
Doctor Sleep and the
IT films, it does offer hope that weāll be seeing the film soon, as we seem to have been waiting for this one for ages.
Zac Efron leads the cast, with his involvement announced way back in September of 2020, before filming took place last summer. Blumhouse is involved, as is Universal Pictures.
Directing is Keith Thomas, whose debut feature,
The Vigil, marked an electrifying entrance into the horror genre. It’s certainly an interesting creative team so far, with Scott Teems – writer of
Halloween Kills – having scripted the screenplay.
The plot of
Firestarter revolves around a young girl with pyrokinetic abilities that she struggles to control. Her father tries to protect her as a shadowy government agency seeks to ensnare them both.
The original film starred Drew Barrymore and released in 1984. King’s work is enjoying something of a renaissance at the moment and
Firestarter marks yet another project of his coming to fruition. More news on the new versionās release date just as soon as we hear it.
