A promising-sounding racing flick, which also boasts the involvement of Lewis Hamilton, looks set to find a backer in the form of Apple.
An untitled racing driver movie with some serious name value behind it is reportedly close to finding its home at Apple. A month ago, we heard that several major studios, Paramount, MGM, Sony, Universal, Netflix and Amazon, were interested, but it seems Apple may have snagged the project.
It’s easy to see why it’s an attractive prospect: Brad Pitt is set to star, with
TRON: Legacy and
Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski in place to direct. What’s more, producing legend Jerry Bruckheimer is also said to be on board, as well as racing icon Lewis Hamilton.
Interestingly, Pitt and Kosinski have tried to make a racing movie together before. That film, originally titled
Go Like Hell, would become the excellent
Ford V Ferrari ā Le Mans 66 over here ā but neither man would ultimately be involved.
The project is said to be budgeted at around the $140m mark. Whilst Hamiltonās involvement may hint at the film being set in the world of Formula 1, no deal has been struck as of yet with that organisation. In the movie, āPitt will play a retired racing legend who mentors a younger driver and takes his final stab at glory on the track as the younger driver’s teammate.ā
Pitt, is of course, a major draw for the project, but Kosinski too is in hot demand, with
Top Gun: Maverick coming our way in May and confirming the director yet again as a filmmaker who can work with big budgets, big stars and big practical set-pieces. Weāre certainly revving our engines for this one and will let you know when we hear more.
