MGM is reportedly in final negotiations for Leonardo DiCaprio to play notorious cult leader Jim Jones, who was responsible for many hundreds of deaths.
Leonardo DiCaprio is notoriously selective about his projects, and with a strong body of work to his name ā not to mention seven Oscar nominations ā you can see why. DiCaprio has steered clear of franchises and sequels (weāre choosing not to count 1991ās
Critters 3) throughout his career, instead choosing to focus on standalone films, and his next project looks to be no different.
It has been announced that DiCaprio will be playing the American cult leader Jim Jones, the founder of the Indianapolis Peopleās Temple cult that would eventually result in the 1978 Jonestown mass suicide that killed over 900 people.
MGM is backing the project, and DiCaprio is reportedly in final negotiations to star. No director has yet been named, but the script is complete and has been penned by Scott Rosenberg, who also wrote or co-wrote
Con Air, High Fidelity, Gone in 60 Seconds, the new
Jumanji films and
Venom.
DiCaprio will next be seen leading Adam McKayās star-packed ensemble cast in Netflixās
Donāt Look Up, releasing at the end of the year, before appearing in Martin Scorseseās
Killers Of The Flower Moon for Apple. Weāll bring you more on the
Jim Jones project, including who will be directing the film, as we hear it.
