The Marvel head honcho has offered a little insight into why the entire 2022/23 MCU slate is being pushed backwards.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige, had offered an explanation as to why the company has made the decision to push their entire slate of films over the next two years, delaying each title by up to several months. Speaking at the premiere for
The Eternals, Feige explained that “it’s production shifts and changes, and because we have so many slots we could just shift slots. So all the Marvel slots are the same, we’re just shifting the movies coming out. And yeah [Doctor]
Strange is moving six weeks, so instead of there being three months between Marvel movies, there’ll be five months between Marvel movies. And I think that we can all handle that.”
Whilst not explicitly stated, ‘production shifts’ suggests that this could be ongoing turbulence from the pandemic, with the serial nature of the Marvel films meaning that when one gets pushed back, they all need to follow suit. The fact that Marvel’s parent company, Disney, is also shifting films such as Indiana Jones 5 backwards, suggests it is a company-wide move.
As it stands, these are the revised release dates for the MCU films:
May 6th, 2022: Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
July 8th, 2022: Thor: Love And Thunder
November 11th, 2022: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
February 17th, 2023: The Marvels
May 5th, 2023: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (that’s just started filming)
July 28th, 2023: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
November 3rd, 2023: untitled Marvel film
