The much-loved movie Field Of Dreams is the latest to be picked up in Hollywood for television series treatment: more details here.
There’s something of an art to film storytelling. To set up, tell and conclude a story in the best part of two hours remains an incredibly tough challenge, and it still staggers me just how much the 1989 classic Field Of Dreams manages to do in under an hour 50.
The much-loved drama though, based on the book Shoeless Joe by W P Kinsella, is the latest feature film that Hollywood now wants to turn into a television show. To spread the storytelling over a far longer period of time. It’s already being talked about as a reimaging, and Universal’s streaming service Peacock is behind the show. Mike Schur, who created The Good Place, is in charge of bringing the film and book to the small screen.
Of the original people involved in the feature film, producer Lawrence Gordon appears the only creative from the movie involved in the show, and a full series of it has already been ordered. This all comes just under a week after the film hit the headlines following a well-reported baseball match that took place in Iowa, where the film was shot. Testament to the ongoing legacy of a very, very special piece of work.
