Director Gurinder Chadha is teaming up with iconic British studio Aardman to direct a new animated musical film, inspired by Bollywood.
Gurinder Chadha, director of
Bend It Like Beckham and
Blinded By The Light is working with the studio Aardman (
Shaun The Sheep: Farmageddon) for her next feature, an animated musical film that is inspired by Bollywood films.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the film will tell the story of a young Indian elephant from the jungles of Kerala with the impossible dream of becoming a Bollywood dancer. The film will be co-wrote by Chadra and her frequent collaborator Paul Mayeda Berges. Quoted in the article, Chadha said of the colloboration that she was “honored and excited to bring my unique British Asian vision to their acclaimed animation studio. [ā¦] Their work has so much heart, humor and affection, and we share a love of authentic and joyful underdog stories about memorable characters,” she added, “so it really is a perfect match.”
The new film will mark Chadraās first step in to the world of animation, but with the calibre of her previous work combined with the success of Aardmanās recent films, it seems like a match made in heaven.
More on this one as itās announced.
