The final film in the Friday series is reportedly mired in development hell, following heated disagreements between director and studio.
Whilst it seems that Ice Cube and Warner Bros both want to get the final instalment in the popular
Friday series up and running, reports are stating that the two sides have reached a position where it is looking increasingly unlikely that the film will get off the ground.
Accusations are forthcoming from both sides, with Ice Cubeās representatives stating that the studio have been sending excessive amounts of notes regarding submitted scripts for
Last Friday, whilst accusations of discrimination have then followed. In reverse, Warner Bros is claiming that Ice Cube has been distracted by other ventures, rather than fully committing to the project.
Whether thereās any truth to the accusations weāll most likely never know, but the acrimony that is clouding the relationship between filmmaker and studio seems to be choking any chance of the film getting made.
Ice Cube has reportedly demanded that Warner Bros surrender the rights to
Last Friday, along with a few other films, but weād suggest that is unlikely to happen. Nonetheless, itās another case of filmmaker dissatisfaction for a studio that has suffered with this problem chronically throughout the last year.
In the past, Ice Cube has been vocal about these issues, stating āI really apologise to my friend for not getting the next
Friday movie made. Itās not my fault. Some dumbass people in Hollywood, at New Line Cinema⦠Gave you punks two scripts and you all didnāt want to do them. Thatās the real. We was trying to make that movie for years and we couldnāt get it done, but we got the other three, and we got our memories, and we got our love.ā
At the moment then, the film looks unlikely to get made, but this is Hollywood, so you never know. Weāll keep you updates as we hear more.
