Oscar and BAFTA frontrunner Promising Young Woman is skipping cinemas in the UK and heading straight to Sky Cinema.
Crikey. An awards frontrunner in both the Oscars and the BAFTAs, the brilliant Promising Young Woman will be skipping cinemas in the UK, and instead debuting directly on the Sky Cinema service.
The film needed a release in the UK by April to qualify for the BAFTAs, and as such an indoor cinema release became unfeasible. In has swooped Sky, and picked up arguably the best exclusive it’s yet attracted to its Sky Cinema channel.
The film will be debuting on the service from April 16th in the UK.
Carey Mulligan headlines the film, that’s been written and directed by Emerald Fennell.
Understandably, Sky is quite pleased with its coup. Sarah Wright, the firm’s director of acquisitions, has said “Promising Young Woman’ is an outstanding debut by a very exciting filmmaker, deservedly receiving plaudits across the industry and we can’t wait to share it exclusively with Sky Cinema customers.”
It’s a superb film, that deserved a cinema release. But at least now we in the UK can actually get to see it, following its release in the US last year.
