Producer Kelly McCormick gives us our first insight regarding what to expect from Bullet Train – and how it has amassed such an impressive cast.
The cast for the Brad Pitt-headlined action thriller Bullet Train, has been steadily building over the last year. And frankly, it’s only looking more and more impressive with each added name. Already starring in the movie alongside Pitt are Lady Gaga, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Andrew Koji, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz and Masi Oka and Sandra Bullock.
That’s a cast list and a half by anybody’s standards, and is the project becomes even more exciting when you consider that it’s directed by David Leitch, helmer of Deadpool 2 and the action flick, Atomic Blonde.
The Sony-backed film is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by Kitaro Isaka with the plot focusing around a self-contained story that ‘follows a group of assassins with conflicting motives aboard a fast-moving train in Tokyo.’
With two weeks or so left to film, producer Kelly McCormick has been chatting about the shoot, offering some insights into what we can expect and detailing her thoughts on how Leitch has managed to amass such as impressive roster of actors.
Says McCormick, “I think the combo in what this movie is, which is kind of a crazy crime caper, is a really exciting combo for fans as well as actors. I can’t speak more highly of the picture and the experience. Every day is an absolute riot.”
With Leitch being renowned for directing thrilling action sequences such as his uncredited co-direction of John Wick and the aforementioned Atomic Blonde, one of the most promising aspects of Bullet Train are the set pieces we’ll encounter. McCormick agrees, noting that the high-concept set up, with the characters aboard the train for the entire film, will add an extra dimension to this.
“One of the things that was fun about the action on this is the confined space, in that we’re basically on a bullet train for the whole picture. So, how do you… What is creative? What is original? What is fresh, with regards to that? And, that’s been a really fun challenge for David, as well as the action team headed by 2nd unit director Greg Rementer”
Needless to say, we are very, very excited for this one. We’ll bring you more news on Bullet Train as we hear it.
