Much-loved visual effects magazine Cinefex is shutting its doors, it’s been confirmed, due to current market conditions.
Well, here’s some thoroughly rubbish news. As you may have read over the last day or two, the widely-loved Cinefex magazine is closing its doors, after 40 years. The publication, billed as the premier magazine for visual effects professionals and enthusiasts, is the latest print magazine to shut its doors over the last year.
In a post to its readers on the publication of its 172nd issue, it wrote that “the pandemic deprived us of subject matter, retail outlets, and, most critically, advertisers, many of whom, like us, struggled to remain afloat in a climate of intense turmoil and uncertainty”.
Inevitably, we can relate to that.
“We did our best to weather the storm, but ultimately the storm prevailed”.
The final issue of the magazine is on sale now, and we’re sending the very best to the team behind it. We hope they land back on their feet soon. The image at the top comes from Cinefex’s Twitter feed, and is testament to the achievement of just what it managed to do.
