James Mangold hints that Indiana Jones 5 will take place in 1960s New York

The director of the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 has sent out a strong hint regarding when and where we can expect to find Indy for his final adventure. Beware! Fruity language lies ahead. If anybody out there is capable of giving Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford and the popular series the send-off it truly deserves, you have to suspect that James Mangold may just be that man. Whether it was his astute handling of all of the competing elements of Le Mans 66, or finding a way to give Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine an incredible third-act ending in Logan, with Spielberg having departed the Indiana Jones series, Mangold certainly feels like the right fit. Now, we have a broad hint from the director as to where and when we will pick up the reins of Indy’s final fling, with Mangold taking to Twitter to a) declare his love for 1960s glam rock outfit The Velvet Underground, whilst b) giving us a strong hint as to where we will find Dr Jones in Indy 5.  You can read the tweet below: This makes a lot of sense in terms of timings. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull was released back in 2008, which means 14 years will elapsed by the time we get to the events of Indy 5. With Crystal Skull being set in 1957, that would actually take us into the early 1970s, but who’s counting, right? Certainly not star Harrison Ford who will be 80 by the time he cracks the bullwhip on the big screen again. Frankly, we don’t care where the film starts (although New York in the 1960s could see The NY World’s Fair, Woodstock or even Beatlemania make appearances,) as long as when Indy begins globe-trotting, we get to see the map with the travelling red line.
