Ready Player Two movie “in the early stages”

Author Ernest Cline confirms that there are plans to bring his new novel, Ready Player Two, to the movies. It’s been a few weeks now since author Ernest Cline’s sequel novel Ready Player Two was released into the world. It’s come up for some, er, ‘criticism’, but also seems to be doing really rather well. The first book caught the attention of Steven Spielberg, who ultimately turned it into the successful 2018 movie Ready Player One. The grossed over half a billion dollars at the box office, and the assumption was as a result that Hollywood would be interested in bringing the follow-up to the screen too. As it turns out, it is. Cline, chatting to Inverse, has confirmed that the movie adaptation of his new book is already on the stove. “It’s in the early stages right now”, he told the outlet. “Especially since Hollywood is in limbo right now. But I can tell from the experience of making the first movie that everybody had a lot of fun”. He added conversations took place about a second film while the first was being made. That said, we’d be surprised if Spielberg returned to direct the second film himself, albeit he’d presumably have first refusal about being involved.
