Film productions in England can continue it’s been confirmed, even as cinemas shut their doors from this coming Thursday.
England-based film productions can and will continue to shoot whilst the country is in its second lockdown, it has been confirmed.
Variety has received confirmation from the producers’ trade body, PACT, whilst Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has also announced clarification on the matter, following the rather rushed briefing on Saturday evening by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Dowden took to Twitter to announce: ‘The changes mean people should WFH [work from home] where possible. But where this is not possible, travel to a place of work will be permitted – e.g. this includes (but not exhaustive) elite sport played behind closed doors, film & tv production, telecoms workers.’
So, productions such as The Batman and the most recent entry in the Jurassic World franchise can continue to shoot, alongside smaller productions, although as has been mentioned before, insuring against potential Covid losses is making it difficult for smaller films to get off the ground. Still, it’s a modicum of good news for the UK film industry and the wider economy in general and we’ll take all the good news we can get right now.
