The new Resident Evil film will be an origin story set in 1998, it’s been revealed – more details on the project right here.
The big screen reboot of the Resident Evil films is pressing ahead, with this time British writer and director Johannes Roberts steering the metaphorical ship.
The cast for the new movie? Kaya Scodelario (Claire Redfield), Hannah John-Kamen (Jill Valentine), Robbie Amell (Chris Redfield), Tom Hopper, Avan Jogia and Neal McDonough are the new lead ensemble for the new film, although don’t wager too much on all of them making it to the end credits.
Roberts – a huge fan of the videogame series – is setting his film in 1998 across a night in Raccoon City. It’s going to be an origin movie for the series, with the plan being to build a fresh movie franchise off the back of it. Filming wrapped up on the production last year.
What’s more, in the US at least, a firm release date has been announced. Expect the movie on September 3rd 2021 – and, assuming cinemas can open fully – the UK date is likely to be around then as well.
