It looks like itās finally going to be released, as tickets go on sale around the UK for Christopher Nolanās new film, Tenet.
Itās something of an understatement to says things have been rocky for UK cinemas since their reopening at the end of July. Confusion over whether governmental regulations are being followed, a dearth of new films to entice audiences back and of course, Disney pulling
Mulan from cinemas in favour of a paid PVOD release on Disney+. All have all shaken confidence in the industryās ability to recover from the Covid crisis.
The
Mulan move in particular, was an unexpected body blow, that caught cinemas unaware, sapping confidence that things would ever really get back to ānormalā.
However, through it all, Christopher Nolanās upcoming
Tenet, set to be released by Warner Bros, has attempted to maintain a global release to cinemas and cinemas alone, giving the beleaguered industry a genuine blockbuster from a revered director that will tempt audiences back to cinemas and restore confidence across the industry for all involved. Be it cinemas, distributors, studios or audiences. Thatās the theory, anyway.
Despite having to shift dates backwards a few times, and with Disneyās removal of
Mulan prompting fears that Warner Bros might blink and reschedule
Tenet, the film is set to roll out on August 26th here in the UK, and whatās more, that date has been seemingly confirmed as you can now book tickets for August 26th and beyond.
We know that the roll out wonāt be global, as originally hoped, as certain territories struggle to contain the Covid outbreak, but this confirmation that the film will be screening in UK cinemas imminently is positive news.
In more good news, Vue Cinemas, the UKās third-largest operator, has also confirmed that it will reopen to screen
Tenet and itās likely weāll see more independent cinemas opening to take advantage of what will hopefully be the boost that the UK industry so badly needs.
