There’s a sting in the tale for those looking to purchase Mulan to watch via Disney+ this coming September.
Details are falling into place with regards Disney’s release plans for the live action take on
Mulan. The $200m blockbuster is finally being released on September 4
th after several Covid-19-enforced delays. As you’ve likely heard, the movie will be available in cinemas where they’re open and via premium video on demand.
The price for the on demand option is $29.99 in the US, equating to some £22. But it’s also compulsory to have a Disney+ subscription as well. Then the PVOD price is on top of that.
It turns out there’s a further twist to this as well. If you pay your $29.99, it’ll be a permanent purchase of the movie. But only as long as you have an active Disney+ account. If you purchase the film and then cancel your streaming service account the day after, for instance, you’d instantly lose access to
Mulan when your subscription period then lapses.
The confirmation was made to
Insider, who was told by a Disney representative that the $29.99
Mulan charge ensured that viewers “will have continuous access to the film for as long as they remain subscribers to the service”.
Make of all of that what you will. It feels like a bit of an unpleasant sting to it all to us.
